“Troubles overcome are good to tell.”
Writing Down The Arm
I am a writer and photographer living in the Chicagoland area. After teaching for over twenty five years I am being called to write my own stories. In some ways, the only story we can tell or need to tell is our own. This feels especially true since I have lived for over six decades.
As a kid who never quite fit in, I began to carry a journal. My writer’s notebook became a place to gather ideas, experiment with my thinking, and play with words. Writing has always saved my life and reading given my a way to vision myself into the world.
Writing still helps me make sense of things great and small.
Over the years students and friends started calling me “Word Man,” because I cobble together words and phrases even when I speak. Now, after all these years, I am living into this description.
