Writing Down The Arm
People reach out to me and ask how I overcame the many challenges in my life. The short answer is that I am still overcoming. I think we are all looking for our own story and then trying to live into it instead of the one the world expects us to live. I came out as a teenager in the late 1970s and have spent a life time shedding those narratives that do not reflect who I am. My writing explores the challenges and triumphs of navigating a world where being yourself is the most difficult decision you have to make. I am a writer, photographer, and educator. My partner and I live in the Chicagoland area.
My life has been enriched by immersion into the minds of generations of students. Having taught students the importance of thinking and writing down the arm, I am now turning to my own short story writing and learning how to create and develop scenes that illicit a reaction from the reader, that is both inspiring and challenging.
Visual Poetry
My first love was poetry. It saved my life. Both poems and pictures resonate as they come from the same place of inspiration. I am a Storier, using words and pictures to tell stories that inspire, provoke, and maybe even teach.
